The second edition of the UCNY Challenger brought thrilling squash action to The University Club of New York. Sponsored by Cache Seven, an outdoor company, the tournament featured great competition and remarkable performances from both rising and established players.
Seventh seeds Daleum Mawji and Devin McLaughlin emerged as champions, dropping just one game throughout the tournament. Mawji, a former Princeton player, and McLaughlin, a Harvard alumnus, displayed teamwork and great skill on their path to victory. In the final, they faced top seeds Marcus Sim Wei Jie and Sergio Martin, overcoming them in a well-fought 3-1 battle.
The road to the final was not without its challenges. Sim Wei Jie and Martin narrowly escaped a five-game thriller in the semi-finals against the wildcard duo of Rahul Sehrawat and James Wyatt. The match saw dramatic momentum swings, with the wildcard team pushing the top seeds to their limits before ultimately falling short.
Mawji’s triumph at the UCNY Challenger solidifies his growing reputation in the doubles community and his ability to guide his team through a highly competitive draw and claim the title demonstrates potential for future success.
With another successful edition in the books, the UCNY Challenger continues to establish itself as an important event on the squash calendar, highlighting the sport’s competitive depth and the emergence of new talent.
