The Heights Casino Women’s Open returned for its third edition over Halloween weekend, delivering a thrilling showcase of squash to Brooklyn. Known for having one of the best and most knowledgeable crowds on the SDA tour, the Heights Casino fans brought an extra layer of excitement to the event. With a $15,000 prize fund and a top-tier lineup, the tournament was a highlight of the season. It culminated in a high-energy final where Georgina Stoker and Nikki Todd emerged victorious over Kayley Leonard and Maria Elena Ubina in a decisive 3-0 match, mirroring their previous face-off at the Maryland Club. This win marks Stoker’s third consecutive title, while Leonard and Ubina continued their remarkable season by reaching the final of every tournament so far.
The event, organized by SDA player and Heights Casino Head Pro Jim Bamber, drew a competitive field and had its own unique flair with its celebrated champagne bottle trophies. A highlight of the early rounds came from wildcard entrants and local Heights Casino members Meredeth Quick and Haley Mendez, who thrilled the home crowd by defeating Lauren Johnston and Lindsay Stanley in an exciting first-round showdown. Quick and Mendez eventually fell to the unstoppable Stoker and Todd.
Meanwhile, Jess Davis and Katie Tutrone came close to a significant upset in the quarterfinals, pushing fourth seeds Jackie Moss and Jaime Minerson to the limit. Defending champion Stoker, fresh off her NYC Open victory the previous weekend, was focused on capturing back-to-back titles. Pairing up with Todd this time instead of her NYC Open partner Lauren West, Stoker successfully continued her winning streak, solidifying her status as the women’s World #1.
