The Palm Beach Open presented by Wingstop made an impressive debut on the SDA Pro Tour, bringing professional squash doubles to Palm Beach for the first time and immediately establishing itself as one of the standout events of the season. With $20,000 in prize money and led by tournament director Narelle Krizek, former World No. 1 and a pioneer of the professional women’s game, the event delivered both on and off the court.
The draw featured strong storylines throughout, including the return of PSA and Team USA star Amanda Sobhy, who partnered Fernanda Rocha in front of a home crowd in nearby Boynton Beach. The pair made an immediate impact, pushing top seeds Kayley Leonard and Maria Elena Ubina in a competitive semifinal that, despite the 3–0 scoreline, was tightly contested throughout.
At the top of the draw, Leonard and Ubina continued their dominant run, advancing to the final where they met second seeds Georgina Stoker and Lauren West. The pairing of Stoker and West renewed one of the season’s most compelling rivalries, with Stoker having split results against Leonard and Ubina across different partnerships throughout the season.
The final saw Leonard and Ubina assert control early, taking the opening two games before Stoker and West raised their level in the third. Pushing the game to 14–13, they created two game-ball opportunities, but Leonard and Ubina held firm under pressure, closing out the match in straight games. It marked their first 3–0 victory over the pairing in some time and further reinforced their position at the top of the tour.
The event also featured a notable milestone for the SDA Pro Tour, with Seanna Keating partnering her daughter Ella Baldwin in the first mother-daughter pairing in tour history, an example of both the sport’s legacy and its continued growth. With strong competition, standout performances, and a successful first year in Palm Beach, the event looks set to become a key fixture on the SDA calendar moving forward.
